Transgendered Avatars

Many people ask about the ability to have a transgendered avatar. This thread is intended to provide people with resources for a transgendered avatar.
CROSS DRESSING:
Using any of the default female clothing textures on a male avatar (or vice-versa) will not work. This is due to the texture coordinates of the models being slightly different and things not lining up. However, the Utherverse community has many custom clothing designers that already do, or would be happy to, cater to a person looking to dress in opposite-gendered clothing. They can be contacted in this very forum, and the textures applied through Uthercloset or similar means.
There are also MALE SKIRT MODELS. The male skirt models are identical to their female counterparts, and can accept any of the same textures. However, since there is no “Skirt” option in the regular avatar customization menu, they must be put in using the super special advanced mode. A step by step tutorial can be found here, on our art blog: http://utherverse3dart.blogspot.com/2009/09/attaching-meshes-which-do-not-have-ui.html
Note that even though there is a “skirt mesh” spot in this menu, adding a skirt there will not work. We suggest adding it to “other mesh”.
Our programmers plan on fixing all this so that it will be much easier and more user friendly, but it’s a deceptively difficult task, and is low down on the list of things that need to be done. The current options were added in the interim to tide people over.
The male skirt mesh names are as follows
HM_lowerbody_skirtgown.gml
HM_lowerbody_skirtlong.gml
HM_lowerbody_skirtmedium.gml
HM_lowerbody_skirtmini.gml
The client of course supports sex between any genders, so an avatar identifying themselves as a transgendered individual will have all the same functionality as one that isn’t.
